Copenhagen, October 2024 - Danish biotech skincare company Bioli ApS is excited to announce a collaboration with Cellugy ApS to develop novel skincare formulations with a lower environmental impact without compromising quality. The collaboration centers around Cellugy’s newly developed rheology modifier.

To achieve the desired high quality texture, application, and feel, while also ensuring sustainability, Bioli will be incorporating Cellugy's new biofabricated cellulose-derived ingredient across a range of products.

“With our goal to launch bioactive products with high-quality, rich, airy textures and the lowest possible environmental impact, including biodegradability, we have been searching for the right ingredients. Cellugy aligns perfectly with this” said Nina Wiberg Rosenquist, CEO of Bioli.

The collaboration reflects a strong commitment to quality, sustainability and innovation. Both companies, located in Søborg at Alfa Laval’s Innovation House, are on an impact-driven mission to replace conventional ingredients that are harsh on the skin and our planet. Like Bioli, Cellugy is also a start-up with high ambitions and a keen eye for the right partnerships.

“Bioli has a unique concept that we are excited to support. We share a common vision for a more sustainable future in skincare,” said Clara Capparelli, Commercial Director at Cellugy.

Better and more sustainable skincare

Rheology modifiers are a key ingredient in skincare. Most rheology modifiers today come from petrochemical sources, contributing to environmental pollution. Cellugy’s innovative rheology modifier, EcoFLEXY, is a multifunctional, cellulose-based ingredient derived from fermentation. This nature-mimicking, high-performing ingredient plays a crucial role in reducing the global impact of petro-based polymers, which can contribute to the formation of microplastics.

“EcoFLEXY represents a significant advancement in the skincare industry. The many tests we have conducted clearly demonstrate the unique viscosity it adds to our products. Not only is it high-performing, but it is also biodegradable, which is perfect for us as it aligns with our product standards,” said Aldo Seguel, Chief Science Officer of Bioli.

By leveraging the expertise and resources of both Bioli and Cellugy, this collaboration reflects a strong commitment to making better skincare, paving the way for better solutions in the skincare industry.
